Babylonstoren

Have you ever visited Babylonstoren South Africa? If not, this should be your next holiday or short break destination. Deep in the wine valleys of Franshoek sits the majestic Cape Dutch farm, Babylonstoren. The farm languishes in the shadow of Simonsberg and is considered one of the oldest of its kind. Here you can find all the South African heart desires, fine food, wine, and luxury accommodation.

Babylonstoren Cape Town

There’s no place more beautiful on earth than the Western Cape. Its misty mountains, deep winding wine valleys, and panoramic views aren’t found anywhere else in the world. Here’s where the earth touches the sky, and time stands still, creating the perfect backdrop for Babylonstoren.

Waxing lyrical about the beauty of South Africa is easy, yet with Babylonstoren, there’s no need for pretty words. Linked to the glorious hanging gardens of Babylon by name, Babylonstoren Cape Town is everything its name suggests, pure biblical beauty. This is the one spot on earth where grapes, olives, and rooibos tea are grown and processed for your ultimate enjoyment.

Sleep in the shadow of the mountains

Babylonstoren provides accommodation beyond your wildest dreams. For conventional hotel enthusiasts, the Babylonstoren hotel provides sumptuous rooms elegantly decorated to rest your weary head. Breakfast is included, and the table groans with seasonal produce from the farm’s own garden. Then after a hearty breakfast, drag yourself away from the table and pick from a range of activities included in your luxury stay. For example, Guided fishing, bicycles to explore the farm, rowing on the dam, and guided farm and garden tours. There’s so much more included; you would have to see it to truly appreciate it.

If hotels are not your thing, book an entire family house complete with en-suites, pool, and space for ten of your best mates. Alternatively, couples and smaller families can book a relaxing cottage break at the Fynbos or Garden cottages. However, these cottages are by no means small!  Honeymooners? Yours is the loft above the farmhouse. Nestled under the trees and considered the most beautiful in Africa, the loft is the perfect getaway.

Things to do and see in the valley

Guided garden and farm tours, cellar tours, and workshops are just some of the ways to spend the gloriously sunny days at Babylonstoren. Keep the kids amused with bicycle rides, walks, and frequent dips in the refurbished farm reservoir pool. Alternatively, kids can really integrate into farm life and help feed the resident donkeys, collect eggs, pick fruit, and help bake bread. Staying at Babylonstoren is about recentering yourself and getting back to your grassroots. No iPads required!

If you have a more relaxing stay in mind, simply stroll down to the exclusive Babylonstoren spa and treat yourself to a few hours of peace away from the kids. With an indoor heated pool, sauna, steam room, and salt room, you will undoubtedly be spoilt for choice.

Lekker kos and wine at Babylonstoren

Now for our favourite part! The food. We all know that the food is what makes or breaks family gatherings and getaways. And at Babylonstoren, they definitely deliver. The farm offers unique dining experiences in the form of dinners in the bakery, which operates as a bakery by day. Or picnics in the Greenhouse Restaurant under the oak trees where meals are served in wooden crates accompanied by preserves and salads.

For more elegant fare, the Babylonstoren Babel is the main restaurant on-site and offers a stunning setting surrounded by Cape Dutch décor and glass walls. Fresh produce from the garden is on the menu, accompanied by delicious Babylonstoren wine. Yes, they produce their own wine on nearly 100 hectares of land, 600 meters above sea level. If you want to enjoy a delicious bottle of Pinot Noir or Chardonnay, the Babylonstoren label is one to choose! Book a cellar tour and visit the wine tunnel and barrel cellar, with a rich wine tasting experience at the end.

Shopping Babylonstoren style

We love a good shopping experience; well, at the Babylonstoren Shop, you can shop to your heart’s content. Fresh produce found on the restaurant menus can be bought in the Farm shop, but that’s not all! You have to see the Meat Room, Cheese Room, Bakery, and Lekker (sweet) Room, each filled with unique and tasty products. Alternatively, wander through the Scented Room and make your own facial scrub or purchase bespoke linen and homeware. With such a wide variety of products on offer, shopping just became a full-time job! You can also have these wonderful products shipped right to door by visiting the Babylonstoren online shop.

Babylonstoren is a must-see, the ultimate in South African destinations. So next time you book a holiday or find yourself under African skies again, be sure to take the family to see this fantastic piece of heaven. It’s the perfect luxury African adventure with gardens, good food, wine, shops, and incredible scenery to explore.
