Perth prides itself on being a fun, family-friendly city with a wide range of activities to keep even the youngest expat travellers entertained all year round. If you’re living in Perth or planning on moving there soon, here are some top kid-friendly activities you’ll enjoy.
Things to do in Perth with kids
Take a visit to King’s Park
King’s Park is literally a jewel in Perth’s crown. This incredible botanical garden is filled with activities and playgrounds for kids. Take your children for a walk along the treetops on the Lotterywest Federation Walkway or play in the footprints of dinosaurs at May Drive Parkland. King’s Park is also ideal to cycle through and as one of the world’s biggest inner city parks, there are plenty of designated cycle tracks. If you don’t have your own bike, you can hire a bike and a helmet from the hire terminal.
Visit the wildlife at the Perth Zoo
What kid doesn’t enjoy a trip to the zoo? Perth’s Zoo is one of the oldest in the whole of Australia and is set out over a massive 41 acres. It is home to over 164 exotic and native species of animals from all over the world and supports a number of conservation efforts.
Swim in Mettam’s Pool
Perth is famous for its wonderful beaches and crystal-clear seas. Naturally any of Perth’s beaches is a wonderful place for children to swim and play, however Mettam’s pool is extra special. Mettam’s pool is a child-friendly bay situated up the West Coast Drive strip. The pool is surrounded by a reef, providing a protected swimming area with great snorkelling for young and old alike.
Swim, play and fish at Hillary’s Boat Harbour
Hillary’s Boat Harbour is a wonderful place to visit for the whole family. There is a family-friendly place to swim, plenty of shops and restaurants and great kid-friendly fishing spots. If you are lucky enough to catch something, you can even cook it on one of the public barbeques. Hillary’s Boat Harbour is also home to AQWA – the Aquarium of Western Australia, which takes you on an incredible under-water journey and provides plenty of free school holiday activities!
Scitech where your kids learn as they have fun
If your child is a budding scientist or just loves exploring, then you must take them to Scitech. Scitech is Perth’s interactive science museum that includes a planetarium, theatres and a rotating range of feature exhibits. It’s the perfect place to take your kids on a rainy day, or even a hot one and it also offers a wonderful party venue for children from 4 to 12.
Escape to Rottnest island
Perth even has its own family-friendly island – Rottnest – just 18kms from Fremantle. Rottnest is the perfect family vacation spot with no cars, endless white beaches and crystal clear waters. Here your children can play, fish, snorkel, cycle and generally run wild as kids love to do.
