Rainbow Friday: the SA expat’s Friday shopping feature #8

April 8, 2016

Welcome to your #RainbowFriday feature no.8. This week we’re travelling back to the amicable country, and favourite South African immigration hub, Canada!

In addition to being the second largest country in the world, Canada’s rich diversity has much to offer immigrants. It’s the most educated country in the world, has more lakes than the rest of the world’s lakes combined and in certain territories you can get licence plates in the shape of polar bears.

But Canada is not South Africa, and if you’re feeling a little homesick you may be looking forward to a bit of Rainbow Nation flavour. You’re in luck, as we have just the shop for you!

If you have any suggestions, remember to mail those to info@finglobal.com

Shop of the Week – Eat Sum More

Happen to find yourself in Ontario? Well then scoot on over to the corner of Bathurst and Centre Streets in Thornhill and you’ll find your pot of safa gold.

About Eat Sum More

The story begins in Vanderbijlpark, South Africa, at the The Golden Highway Butchery where George and Leah Slimowitz – grandparents to Eat Sum More’s shop owner – infused his life with the slogan “It’s all in de spices”.  A phrase which has  followed them across the globe.

On immigration, now shop owners found they were missing something and started making their own biltong and boerewors. This quickly grew into a business –  offering South Africans and Canadians a choice of South African products.

The shop is headed by family matriarch, Rita, and the third generation of Slimowitzes. They import all their spices from South Africa, and customers have been raving about their biltong – calling it the best in Canada!
