Is there sense in looking back?

May 19, 2014

South Africans are lekker people and they live and work in really lekker places – London, New York, Perth, Ontario to name but a few…

Social media like Facebook, Skype, Google Plus and a myriad others has made life even more lekker given the capability to conduct personal business in the moment. Doesn’t matter where you find yourself – South Africa’s just a click away.

Tens of thousands South African expats, when looking back, will realise they’ve been living in the UK for a decade and more and that it’s home. How time flies when you’re having fun!

Physically the living part is correct, but from a technical and legal angle many of them are still South African residents and hold personal pensions, retirement annuities and properties back home – or are beneficiaries expecting an inheritance.

On the balance there’s more sense in looking forward and consolidating investments and wealth in the UK, or wherever it is they prefer to live. Moving forward is not nearly as daunting a prospect as having made the initial decision to pack up to go live abroad.

So, if you’re the positive type who’s decided there’s no sense in looking back you’ve nothing to lose by considering financial emigration.

These days you do it online – Safe. Secure. Simple – and to make things easy we’re the helpful South African voice on the other side. When done and dusted you’ll look back and ask yourself “why have I not done this a long time ago?”
