Decadent Bar One cake recipe

Whether you’re making it for a special occasion or just to satisfy a craving for home, this cake is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.

This recipe will guide you in creating an exceptionally moist chocolate cake, finished with a rich, glossy sauce made from melted Bar One chocolate bars.

Servings: 1 large bundt cake or two 8-inch (20cm) round cakes
Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 35-40 minutes

Ingredients

For the chocolate cake:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

For the Bar One chocolate sauce:

  • 5 standard (55g) Nestlé Bar One bars, chopped
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Heat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and flour a bundt pan or two 8-inch round cake pans to prevent the cake from sticking.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Break up any clumps for a smooth batter.
  3. Mix wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until fully blended.
  4. Make the batter: Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients. Mix gently with a hand mixer on low speed or by hand until just combined. The batter will be thick at this stage.
  5. Incorporate hot water: Slowly pour in the boiling water and mix on low speed until the batter is smooth. It will become thin, which helps make the cake moist.
  6. Bake the cake: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool the cake: Let the cake cool in the pan for about 15 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Make the sauce: While the cake cools, prepare the sauce. In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the chopped Bar One bars, heavy cream, and butter. Stir continuously until the mixture is smooth and glossy. Keep the heat low to prevent burning the chocolate.
  9. Decorate and serve: Once cooled, place the cake on a serving plate and pour the warm Bar One sauce over the top, allowing it to cascade down the sides. For extra decoration, sprinkle additional chopped Bar One pieces on top. Enjoy!

This cake is delicious served warm or at room temperature, and tastes even better with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
