Caitlin Rooskrantz’s Road to the Olympics

Rooskrantz’s journey to the Olympics has been nothing short of inspiring. She started gymnastics at the young age of six and quickly fell in love with the sport. With hard work, dedication, and talent, she began competing at a national level by the age of 12.

In 2016, Rooskrantz made her international debut at the African Championships, where she won a gold medal on the uneven bars and silver in the all-around competition. She continued to make strides in her gymnastics career, competing at various international competitions and representing South Africa with pride.

Overcoming challenges

Like many athletes, Rooskrantz has faced her fair share of challenges along the way. In 2017, she suffered a serious knee injury that required surgery and months of rehabilitation. Despite this setback, Rooskrantz persevered and came back stronger, winning a silver medal on the balance beam at the Commonwealth Games in 2018.

Making history

Caitlin Rooskrantz made history as the first female gymnast from South Africa to participate in the Olympics since 2004. She secured her spot at the African Championships, winning a gold medal on the uneven bars and a bronze in the floor exercise.

Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Tokyo 2020 Olympics were postponed to 2021. However, this gave Rooskrantz more time to perfect her routines and prepare for the biggest competition of her career.

Achievements in artistic Gymnastics.

In 2018, Caitlin Rooskrantz earned her spot in the 2018 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships held in Doha, Qatar, after winning the all-around event at the South African National Championships. The following year, she made history as the first South African gymnast to win a medal at an international competition. Rooskrantz claimed gold on her specialist apparatus, the uneven bars, at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Challenge event in Szombathely, Hungary.

Continuing her success, Rooskrantz secured a spot in the all-around event at the Tokyo Olympics based on her performance at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Stuttgart, Germany. She and her teammate, Naveen Daries, became the first female gymnasts from South Africa to compete at the Olympic Games since Beijing 2008, thanks to Daries’ bronze medal in the all-around at the African Championships.

In 2022, Rooskrantz showcased her skills once again. She claimed gold on the uneven bars at the World Cup in Cairo and four months later, achieved her best result to date by securing bronze on the uneven bars at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Looking Towards Paris 2024
