Expats often send their children to other countries to complete their tertiary education. 1. Australia

Australia has a lot more to offer than just sun, sea and a laidback lifestyle. Its public and private universities are world-renowned and because the Australian education system is based on the UK model, it means the qualifications students obtain are recognised in the UK and in many other parts of the world.

Australian degrees are more flexible than many South African and British degrees and give students an opportunity to explore and combine a wider range of subjects. To be eligible to study at an Australian university a prospective student must have completed their A-levels or their international baccalaureate. The study year starts in February and a foreign student needs a Student Visa (subclass 500).

2. Canada

Canada is a popular country with expats and has a lot to offer students who are attracted to their state-of-the-art institutions and the safe, friendly and the welcoming environment Canada is renowned for. Students who have studied in Canada will find it a lot easier to find work in Canada – which is another big attraction.

Like Australia, Canada has a very flexible academic system and tertiary students often choose to first study a broad-based degree before they specialise.

3. Hong Kong

Hong Kong is renowned for the strength of its universities and the wonderful scholarships it offers students. As most degrees are taught in English, language is not a problem – and a degree obtained in Hong Kong sets a student up for a career in the global marketplace. 4. South Korea
