July 2015: Funny how things work out – Trevor Noah

Just into his thirties, well-loved South African export, Trevor Noah has taken the world by storm. The most successful comedian in Africa, he was recently announced as the next host of Comedy Central’s, “The Daily Show” taking over from long-time host (and US television’s highest-paid late-night TV personality) Jon Stewart. Forbes rates him as one of Thirteen African Celebrities to Watch, and if you haven’t caught him on tour, you may have to be content to watch him on TV or YouTube because he performs to sold-out shows from the Hammersmith Apollo in London to the Sydney Opera House.

The question is, is Trevor Noah South Africa’s best ambassador? At a time when there are so many things we’d rather not talk about, he’s out there airing our daily worries about race, class, corruption, and crime. He is not afraid to say it how it is, getting up close and personal with our nation’s challenges, not only changing perceptions of South Africans and our humour, but bringing a little bit of home to thousands of expat South Africans across the globe.

Like so many South African entrepreneurs we can be proud of, Trevor Noah is out there, making it happen.
