South African food in Dublin, Ireland

We’ve reached the last month of the year, and many of us are anxious for 2016 to be done. Before we wave goodbye to the year, though, we want to make a few more stops at some South African restaurants abroad. This week we’re letting our hair down at Pielow’s in Dublin.

Restaurant of the week: Pielow’s

Owners of Pielow’s may be Irish by birth, but a chance detour for a holiday in South Africa lead to an adventure of a lifetime and the birth of this renowned Irish-South African restaurant.

Deciding to swap a campervan tour of Europe for a holiday in Tulbagh instead. After one week in this strange new town, they signed a contract to buy a traditional cape Dutch cottage in the area with 1.5 hectares to cultivate.  They packed up and shipped their existing restaurant and possessions to Tulbagh and set up shop.

They eventually returned to Ireland and opened Pielow’s in Dublin – providing delectable fusion meals with distinct flavours from these disparate countries.
